Oman has launched the Middle East’s first advanced drone-based air cargo operations for the oil and gas sector, marking a major shift in how critical equipment is moved across remote production areas. Local company ESBAAR carried out the first operational flights this week, transporting urgent spare parts for oil production using unmanned drones.

The first mission flew spare parts from Haima to an oil site in Concession Area 7, covering about 137 kilometres. The delivery took just one hour and 23 minutes, compared to four hours or more by road. Road transport would have required night driving, which is often restricted in oil fields.

Al Toubi said, “From the very beginning, our focus has been on adopting and developing local capabilities to support advanced air mobility solutions that can address real and complex logistical challenges in vital sectors, foremost among them the oil and gas sector. This launch reflects a firm commitment to strengthening the local manufacturing ecosystem, qualifying Omani talent, and integrating drone technologies through a strategic partnership with SINAN Advanced Industries and Masar Petroleum.”

The drones used in the operation are manufactured in Oman by SINAN Advanced Industries and were deployed in partnership with Masar Petroleum. The flights were completed shortly before sunset, showing the potential for faster and safer deliveries in areas where access is difficult.

Using drones allows oil operators to receive parts quickly, reduce downtime, and respond faster to urgent situations. It also opens the door for round-the-clock cargo movement, including night operations when road transport is limited. ESBAAR plans to expand the service across Oman and into the wider region, with future use cases beyond oil and gas, including other key industrial sectors.
