Oman to boost logistics with 61 road projects

Oman is implementing 61 road projects under its Eleventh Five-Year Plan, with 22 projects already more than 70 percent complete by mid-2026. The programme includes new roads, upgrades and rehabilitation works aimed at improving transport links and supporting logistics movement across the country.

The projects cover key routes connecting economic zones, ports and industrial areas, helping improve the movement of goods and reduce travel time for businesses. Better road connectivity is expected to support supply chain efficiency and strengthen links between different regions of Oman.

Dr. Saif bin Said Al Sinani, Director General of Planning at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said several major road projects had been completed during the first half of 2026, while more are scheduled to open before the end of the year.

Among the upcoming projects is the 132-kilometre Sinaw–Mahout–Duqm Road, which will connect Mahout with the Special Economic Zone at Duqm. The Muscat Expressway expansion is also expected to begin construction later this year.

Oman is also progressing work on major corridors, including the Sultan Said bin Taimur Road between Haima and Thumrait. The continued investment in road infrastructure is expected to improve freight movement, support trade activities and strengthen Oman’s logistics network.
