Qatar Airways has opted to expand its cargo capacity through converted Boeing 777-200LR freighters in response to delays in delivery of new 777-8F, said Mark Drusch, Chief Officer Cargo, Qatar Airways. The airline is partnering with Mammoth Freighters for five conversions, with the first delivery likely this year. Highlighting near-identical performance to factory freighters, this move ensures capacity continuity, while enhancing flexibility across high-demand markets, including Africa, the transatlantic, and the Indian subcontinent. Despite shifting frequencies, no trade lanes have been dropped, underscoring an approach to meet global demand, while staying agile in a volatile market. “We were expecting to take the 777-8Fs sooner than we are going to get them,” said Drusch.
