QR Cargo expands Nordic freighter network

Expanding its routes and presence across the globe, Qatar Airways Cargo has launched its first freighter services to Helsinki, Finland and the wider Nordic region. The new service, effective from 2 September, will operate a once-weekly Boeing 777 freighter on the Doha-Budapest-Helsinki-Doha route. It will provide 100 tonnes of export cargo capacity out of Helsinki each week. Together with existing passenger belly-hold services, the new operation will take total weekly cargo capacity from Helsinki to more than 170 tonnes.

The additional capacity is expected to support trade flows between Finland, the wider Nordic region and international markets through Doha. The service will give exporters more space for shipments such as electronics, industrial machinery, pharmaceuticals, healthcare products, perishables and e-commerce goods.

Helsinki also receives imports including electronics, consumer goods, automotive components, industrial equipment and e-commerce shipments. The additional freighter capacity can provide more options for businesses moving these goods between Europe and markets in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and other regions.

Qatar Airways Cargo currently operates seven weekly passenger flights between Doha and Helsinki, with more than 70 tonnes of belly-hold capacity each way every week. Its road feeder service partners also connect Helsinki with markets across Scandinavia and the Baltic region, allowing cargo to move beyond the airport by road. The new freighter service will therefore add dedicated capacity while supporting wider air and road cargo connections across Northern Europe.
