Multimodal logistics is picking pace as companies shift transport strategies to move cargo more efficiently between Europe and the Gulf. Rhenus Logistics has expanded its multimodal network, combining road, air and logistics hubs to support door-to-door freight between European markets and Gulf countries.

A key part of the solution is direct road freight from European countries to the company’s logistics hub in Mersin, Turkey. Shipments are first consolidated and prepared at secure facilities in Istanbul and Mersin, where cargo is rapidly processed through handling, consolidation and cross-docking before moving to final destinations.

Depending on border processing conditions, trucks move through routes via Syria or Iraq. Logistics teams continuously assess security, stability and transit times to select the most efficient route for shipments.

The service connects key Gulf markets including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain. Rhenus said the multimodal setup allows cargo to move with greater flexibility, while providing full door-to-door delivery from the European Union to the Gulf, with the same service also available in reverse from Gulf markets back to Europe.
