Royal Jordanian, Air China sign MoU for cargo, ground handling

Royal Jordanian (RJ) and Air China have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation between Jordan and China, including air cargo and ground handling at their Amman and Beijing hubs. The agreement also covers interline and codeshare cooperation and comes as the two airlines explore new routes, including a planned direct service between the two capitals.

Samer Majali, CEO and Vice Chairman, Royal Jordanian said that the agreement marks an important step in the airline’s strategy to strengthen its presence in China and the Far East, highlighting Air China’s role as a strategic partner. “Beijing represents a key gateway to China and wider Asian markets, while Amman serves as a major hub for the Levant,” Majali said.

For the cargo sector, stronger cooperation between the two airlines can improve access to air freight services between Jordan, China and wider Asian markets. Using Amman and Beijing as connecting hubs can give shippers and freight forwarders more options to move goods between the Levant and Asia.

The airlines will explore operational cooperation covering air cargo, ground handling and other services at their respective hubs. This can support smoother cargo handling and connections for shipments moving through Amman and Beijing.

The planned direct Amman-Beijing service can also create an additional air link for trade between the two countries. It can support the movement of time-sensitive goods and provide businesses with another option for reaching international markets.

The agreement comes as Jordan and China seek to increase economic and trade links. Improved air connectivity can support cargo flows alongside passenger traffic and help strengthen links between Jordan, China and other markets in Asia. The two airlines will continue discussions on new areas of cooperation as they develop their partnership.
