SAL Logistics gains Liège cargo hub

SAL Logistics Services Company has completed the acquisition of Belgian cargo handling firm Aviapartner Liège SA for SAR120 million ($31.4 million), marking its first operational presence outside Saudi Arabia. The deal expands SAL’s network to 20 stations and gives the company a direct base at Liège Airport, strengthening links between Saudi Arabia and a key European cargo gateway.

Omar Talal Hariri, CEO of SAL said: "This acquisition is an important step in the next phase of SAL’s strategy. Our ambition is not only to grow our footprint, but to build a platform that connects markets, capabilities and customers across key global trade corridors."

The acquisition adds cargo handling, warehouse logistics and specialist freight capabilities to SAL’s operations. Aviapartner Liège serves airlines, freight forwarders and cargo owners, handling segments including pharmaceuticals, perishables, automotive and other time-sensitive shipments.

Liège Airport is one of Europe’s major cargo hubs, handling more than one million tonnes of freight annually. Its location within Europe’s cargo “Golden Triangle” provides access to key markets across Germany, the Netherlands, France and Luxembourg.

The acquisition will support its plans to expand its international network and improve connectivity across major trade routes. The company’s first overseas operation comes as Saudi Arabia continues to develop its logistics sector under the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Vision 2030.
