Salalah Port upgrades terminal’s handling capacity

Salalah Port has completed a US$ 300 mn container terminal expansion, raising its annual handling capacity from 4.5 mn to 6 mn TEUs, Ahmad Aubad Qatan, Chief Commercial Officer, Salalah Port, said. The upgrade reinforces the port’s position as a leading global transhipment hub and a cornerstone of Oman’s Vision 2040 logistics strategy. The project includes expanded yard space, modernised berths, and enhanced quay infrastructure, enabling the port to handle the world’s largest container vessels. The upgrade provides headroom needed to support future growth, the port management stated, noting the added capacity provides vital headroom as shipping networks evolve.
