Saudia Cargo has launched a new initiative with the Saudi Food and Drug Authority to support the movement of pharmaceutical shipments. The plan includes up to 50 per cent reduction in air freight rates and added facilities to speed up the handling of medicines and medical supplies. The aim is to keep essential shipments moving without delays.
The move is expected to directly lower logistics costs for importers and distributors of medicines. This is important at a time when supply chains are under pressure and demand for healthcare products remains steady. Lower costs and faster handling can help ensure that medicines reach hospitals, pharmacies and patients on time.
The initiative also shows how the logistics sector in Saudi Arabia is adapting to protect public health and maintain stable supply chains. Coordination between the regulator and the cargo carrier is likely to improve compliance, reduce risks, and make the process smoother for companies importing pharmaceutical products.
Saudia Cargo will use its certified cold chain systems to handle temperature-sensitive shipments. This helps maintain the quality and safety of medicines during transport, which is critical for the healthcare sector.
