Sharjah, Zimbabwe explore dry ports, air cargo links

Sharjah and Zimbabwe are set to strengthen trade and logistics links, with a focus on improving cargo flows, developing logistics infrastructure and creating new channels for Zimbabwean exports to reach UAE and regional markets. Potential areas include dry ports, air cargo and supply-chain services.

The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) is exploring ways to support the movement of goods between the two markets, while also improving access for businesses and investors. Logistics development could help Zimbabwe strengthen its foreign trade and connect exporters with Sharjah-based companies.

SCCI also highlighted the potential to leverage Gulftainer’s expertise in port management, logistics and supply-chain services to support Zimbabwe’s trade flows and develop private-sector links with Sharjah businesses.

The initiative includes opportunities to facilitate the import and distribution of Zimbabwean products, particularly timber, flowers and fruits, through Sharjah and into local and regional markets.

SCCI Chairman H.E. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais said: “The Sharjah Chamber looks forward to translating the meeting’s outcomes into tangible initiatives and commercially viable partnerships that benefit the business communities of both Sharjah and Zimbabwe.”

The two sides also identified agriculture, mining and tourism as areas with potential to support wider trade and investment ties.
