Shinas handles over 2mn tonnes of cargo

Shinas Port handled 2.34 million tonnes of cargo in the first half of 2026, with imports making up 2.32 million tonnes and exports 18,802 tonnes. The port also recorded 103 transshipment operations, which handled 2.3 million tonnes of cargo, up 30% from the same period last year.

Building and construction materials were the main imported goods, while general cargo accounted for most exports. The figures show the port’s role in moving goods into and out of Oman, particularly for import-heavy cargo flows.

Higher transshipment activity gives traders and logistics companies another route for moving goods through Oman. It can also support cargo consolidation and onward movement to regional markets, helping businesses manage shipments through the country’s maritime network.

The strong volume of imports also reflects demand for construction and building materials in the domestic market. For logistics operators, the cargo growth supports demand for handling, storage, customs and onward transport services around North Al Batinah.

Khater bin Ali Al Maamari, Chief Operating Officer at Shinas Port, said the port has become a hub for transporting and receiving goods, supported by its geographical location and role in connecting Oman with the wider world.
