Surge in cargo handling volumes, containers at Qatar Ports in May

Cargo handling volumes in Hamad, Ruwais, and Doha ports showcased a robust performance in May 2024, marked by substantial growth compared to the previous year. “The surge in general and bulk cargo handling in May 2024, witnessing a remarkable 158 per cent increase over past May, underscores the resilience and efficiency of Qatar’s port operations,” Mwani Qatar stated. The handling of general and bulk cargoes across the three ports reached 213,492 tonnes in May 2024. The ports received a total of 242 vessels during the same period. Containers, RORO units, livestock, and building materials saw significant increases, with figures standing at 123,530 TEUs, 10,632 units, 58,374 heads, and 40,049 tonnes, respectively. In the first quarter of 2024, Mwani Qatar recorded a 4 per cent growth in 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) containers, amounting to 351,564 TEUs. There was a surge of 46 per cent in livestock handling, 4 per cent in RORO units, and 6 per cent in building materials.
