Oman has taken a major step in aviation and logistics with the launch of ‘Sahm,’ the region’s first locally assembled strategic cargo drone. The unmanned aerial vehicle is designed to support cargo transport and logistics operations, strengthening the Sultanate’s push into advanced and smart mobility solutions.
The Sahm cargo drone is expected to play a key role in moving goods to remote and hard-to-reach areas, reducing delivery times and improving supply chain efficiency. It also supports Oman’s wider plans to use new technologies to modernise its transport and logistics sector.
Industry observers say the project places Oman ahead of many countries in the region when it comes to practical drone use for cargo, not just testing or trials. By assembling the drone locally, Oman is also building technical skills and know-how within the country, while reducing reliance on imports.
The move comes as demand grows across the Middle East for faster, more flexible logistics solutions, especially for medical supplies, urgent cargo and support operations. With Sahm, Oman is positioning itself as an early adopter of cargo drone technology, setting a regional benchmark and opening the door for future commercial and government-led applications.
