Egypt is set to establish a dedicated Japanese industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, aiming to strengthen trade links, diversify supply chains and expand manufacturing and logistics activity.

The move is aimed at attracting Japanese companies looking to base production closer to key global shipping routes linking Asia, Africa and Europe. The Suez Canal corridor is expected to support faster cargo movement and smoother supply chain flows.

His Excellency Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Expatriates, Egypt said, “This will strengthen trade flows and support supply chain connectivity across regions.”

The industrial zone is expected to support export-focused manufacturing, increase cargo volumes and expand warehousing and distribution services in the region. It could also help companies shorten supply chains and reduce reliance on single production centres.

Egypt is also promoting its free trade agreements network, which gives manufacturers access to multiple regional markets from a single base. This is expected to improve efficiency in cross-border trade and lower logistics costs.

For the logistics sector, the project may bring higher demand for freight forwarding, port handling and inland transport services as production activity grows around the Suez Canal corridor.
