International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA), in partnership with the Global Shippers Forum (GSF), has introduced a signable version of its data governance charter, reinforcing data protection as a core standard across global logistics and supply chains. Originally launched in 2023, the charter outlined key principles for responsible trade data use. The new signable format enables freight forwarders, shippers, and technology providers to formally commit, while allowing FIATA to embed compliance as a requirement for digital platform partners. Dr Stéphane Graber, Director General, FIATA, said the move signals data governance is now a fundamental expectation across freight forwarding. James Hookham, Director, GSF, added the charter provides shippers with a practical framework to safeguard data within digital transport systems. Built on five principles — data ownership, usage consent, breach reporting, and fair platform practices — the initiative strengthens trust, transparency, and accountability as digitalisation accelerates across global supply chains.
