King Salman International Airport is moving ahead with plans to build a major cargo and logistics hub in Riyadh, targeting capacity of more than two million tonnes of cargo a year by 2030. The airport has signed seven MoUs with Saudi developers as part of its wider development strategy. Around three million square metres have been set aside for logistics and economic zones within the project.
Ahmed Alhazza, Director of Airport Strategy at King Salman International Airport Development Company, said the master plan reflects an integrated vision that includes advanced infrastructure and logistics facilities designed to drive commercial growth and unlock long-term opportunities.
Owned by the Public Investment Fund, the airport project covers a 57 sq km area. About 12 sq km are allocated for real estate and commercial developments, while large sections are dedicated to logistics facilities, warehouses, and transport infrastructure that will support cargo operations.
Located on the site of King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the master plan includes expanded airfield infrastructure, cargo terminals, and integrated transport links to connect air freight with road and rail networks.
