Egypt's Rowad Modern Engineering (RME) has joined a consortium led by Alstom to deliver three railway projects focused on freight transport. The projects aim to improve cargo movement, strengthen links between industrial areas, logistics hubs and ports, and expand the country's rail freight network.

The agreements were signed with the Egyptian National Railways (ENR). The projects are expected to support faster and more efficient movement of goods across key trade routes, while increasing the use of rail for freight transport.

Two of the projects are part of the Cairo–Alexandria freight corridor, one of Egypt's key cargo routes. The work includes the development of a new freight rail line and upgrades to existing sections to improve freight capacity and network efficiency.

The third project will connect Robeiky, 10th of Ramadan City and Belbeis by rail, with a dedicated link to Egypt's dry port network. The connection is expected to improve the movement of cargo between industrial zones, inland logistics facilities and seaports.

The projects form part of Egypt's broader efforts to strengthen its freight transport infrastructure and reduce dependence on road transport for cargo. Better rail connectivity is expected to improve supply chain efficiency, lower transport costs and support growing trade and industrial activity across the country.
