As Gulf cargo carriers expand their operations, Qatar Airways Cargo has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to boost cargo connectivity, expand international operations and strengthen cooperation in aviation development. The agreement will support plans to increase flight frequencies and develop new routes through Hong Kong, strengthening the city’s position as one of the world’s key air cargo hubs. As part of the partnership, the carrier has also relocated its regional office to Hong Kong.
For the cargo and logistics sector, the agreement is expected to improve cargo connectivity and create additional capacity through Hong Kong. The tie-up comes as airlines and freighters expand their operations at Hong Kong International Airport.
Currently, Qatar Airways Cargo operates around 56 weekly flights using both belly-hold and freighter capacity at HKG. The partnership will focus on expanding the carrier’s global connectivity while also covering service improvements, sustainability and workforce development through the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy.
Vivian Cheung, Chief Executive Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong, welcomed the airline’s plans to expand its business presence through additional flights and new routes, saying the authority would continue working with airlines to strengthen the airport’s competitiveness.
