Saudi Arabia, Syria ink four logistics pacts

In a development aimed at improving transport links and the movement of goods, Saudi Arabia and Syria have signed four agreements covering roads, railways, postal services and aviation. Two of the agreements are MoUs focused on land transport and railways, including technical studies, knowledge sharing and capacity building.

The agreements are expected to support the rehabilitation of Syria’s road and railway networks and improve land-based trade links with Saudi Arabia. They also come as regional markets seek stronger transport connections that can support trade flows between Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

Syrian Transport Minister Ya’rub Badr welcomed Saudi measures to ease visa procedures for truck drivers, which could help improve cross-border road freight movements. Badr said the two countries aim to strengthen cooperation in land transport and railway development and benefit from Saudi Arabia’s experience in these areas.

The agreements also cover postal services and aviation, broadening cooperation across transport modes. The two countries are expected to continue discussions on projects and initiatives that can support connectivity and trade.
