Sharjah Airport Authority is moving ahead with plans to expand cargo capacity, roll out advanced digital systems and strengthen trade links with key Asian markets as volumes continue to grow. The airport handled more than 204,000 tonnes of cargo in 2025, up from about 195,000 tonnes in 2024, and is now focusing on scaling infrastructure, improving sea–air connectivity and speeding up cargo handling through automation and real-time tracking.
The expansion drive includes closer coordination with airlines, freight forwarders and logistics operators to attract high-value shipments such as perishables and express cargo. Digital upgrades are a major part of the strategy, with electronic data interchange systems, digital documentation and smart cargo management platforms being deployed to cut paperwork and reduce clearance times. Automated handling solutions are also being introduced to improve efficiency on the ground.
At the same time, sustainability measures such as solar energy use, LED lighting and waste reduction programmes are being expanded. Sharjah Airport is positioning itself as a competitive and reliable logistics gateway for regional and international trade, meeting growing demand for faster, smarter and more sustainable cargo services.
